City breaks to Antibes
The city of Antibes is set on the French Riviera between the popular city break destination of Cannes and the town of Juan-les-Pins. Die to its naturally protected port the city of Antibes has long since been a historical trading centre and was actually founded in the 5th century BC as a Greek colony. The city is surrounded by 25 kilometres of Mediterranean coastline and boasts sandy beaches and clear waters. For art lovers the Picasso Museum in Antibes houses one of the best collections of the artist’s work including paintings, sculpture and tapestries. Other notable museums are the Absinthe Museum and the Naval museum of Napoleon. Atop the Promenade Amiral de Grasse in the old Bastion St Andre, a 17th century fortress, you will find the Archaeology Museum with info on local shipwrecks and the city’s trading past. After checking out all the museums head to Thuret Park on the Cap d'Antibes peninsula to spend an afternoon in beautiful gardens founded by Gustave Thuret in 1857.
