Weekend breaks to Gran Canaria
The Gran Canaria Island is a great place to take a weekend break if you are looking to soak up
a little sun or go hiking. Nearly half of the island is protected habitat making it really easy to go
strolling through the woods, climbing up hills and mountains and doing some bird watching.
If domesticated bird watching is more of what you are into on this weekend break then head
to Palmitos Park, a bird sanctuary known by bird watchers everywhere. The island itself is
interesting ecologically because at different parts of the island you will experience different
climates from hot and dry to humid and green. Most people take their weekend breaks on the
southern side where it is warmer and the beaches are better. Also located across the island are
a series of rocks with names like “el cura”. These rocks are a signature of the island and until
very recently in 2005 the most famous rock, “el dedo de Dios”, was on the island.
Staying for a weekend trip in the Canaries
If you are looking into coming down to the Canaries for a weekend break, be mindful of your
accommodation options. There is always the option to stay at a hotel or hostel and experience
the island a true tourist but if you are looking to understand the local as well you should have
a look at Wimdu. On our site you will find all the information to make your weekend trip
amazing. Find a host on our page, view their rates, photos and reviews from past guest and
then when you are ready, book right on our page. It is a simple and easy way to experience the
island as both a tourist and a local on your weekend trip. Best of all, it will probably cost you
less as the average rate for a room in a hostel is higher than that of a local residence’s spare
room.
