City breaks to Krakow
Krakow is Poland’s third largest city but is the top city break destination for tourists visiting the country. Krakow has been the royal capital of the country for centuries and suffered minimal damage during WWII leaving its beautiful medieval and Renaissance architecture in tact. Head to the Old Town district, known as the Stare Miasto, to see Gothic churches. The Kazimierz area remains a well-preserved example of the city’s Jewish past with beautiful synagogues. For imposing architecture, the Wawel district is a must see stop on the western side of the River Vistula, where you will find the Royal Castle and the Wawel Cathedral. A walk up Wawel Hill itself gives spectacular views over the whole city. Day trips out of the city include excellent destinations such as the Bochnia and Wieliczka salt mines and the Ojcow National Park and caves.
Rent a room for your city break
Accommodation in Krakow gets booked out in summer very quickly so to avoid disappointment book well in advance! The Old Town is the place to find mid-range and luxury hotels and a small selection of cheaper places. However, for budget travellers the area near the Planty border has more on offer in this price range. If you want a more intimate experience with the city why not spend your city break in the apartment of a local Pole? Renting an apartment off a local is a good way to see the city from a different viewpoint.
