THE LOCAL AREA
The area is called Davidson's Mains, we are minute's walk away to friendly pubs serving food, two Indian take away's, a Chinese take away and a Fish & Chip shop. Also in the village there is a Tesco Supermarket, two Banks, a Chemist, two Hairdressers, a Beauticians, a Post Office, a laundromat, a Cafe, three Churches and a large tree enclosed park with kids playpark.
We are neighbours to Lauriston Castle a 16th-century tower house which overlooks the Firth of Forth. There are tours of the Castle at the weekend but the grounds are open daily and free to visit including the Japanese garden and fantastic views to the sea.
You can take lovely sea shore and river walks around to Cramond. Cramond Village and harbour have Roman Ruins and the earliest known site of human settlement in Scotland.
We have private parking on our drive and are on a good bus route. The bus stop is a five minute walk away where you can catch a bus every 10 to 20 minutes to the city centre (a 20 minute bus ride away) or to the airport (a 35 minute bus ride away).
You can get a bus to us from the airport which requires one change of bus.
A taxi is around £15 and takes about 20 minutes.
There is also a cycle path just behind our house to the centre, if you wish to hire bikes.
We have 2 children - fairly well behaved, polite and respectful of guests and we would welcome families with children of any age. Sadly Pepper our Border Terrier passed away late 2013, but I couldn't bear to delete her picture :(

I had to go to Edinburgh at short notice, arriving on a (very!) late flight and was looking for somewhere to stay relatively close to the airport and on a bus route in to town for the next day. Juliet's place was a great find and communication with her via the Wimdu site/mail was really easy. She responded very quickly to my questions.
Unfortunately my flight was delayed and it was after 1 a.m. before I got to the house but Juliet stayed up to let me in and show me the room. It was great to see her waving out of the window when I got out of the taxi and knowing I didn't need to ring the bell or call her and waken the whole household! At that time of night/morning I paid GBP 16 (including small tip) for a taxi from the airport to the house - about a 15 minute journey.
Breakfast the next morning was very much to my taste and the time I showed up to have it was totally up to me which was great. I slept well. The rooms are to the back of the house and there is no street noise. I was also lucky that there was no-one in the other room so no noise from there and I had the bathroom to myself.
The second morning I had to leave quite early to get to the airport. I opted to take the 41 bus in to town and then change to the tram on Princes Street. This worked well and the totally journey quite early on a Saturday morning took just under an hour and cost GBP 1.60 for the bus plus GBP 5.50 for the tram. Make sure you have plenty of coins for public transport!! Even the super new tram ticket machines do not take notes - only coins or credit cards. Juliet recommended changing notes in the branch of Tesco right next to the house. This worked well. The guy even asked if I was changing for bus fares and gave me exactly the coins I needed!
It is definitely worth the short walk from the house to Lauriston Castle. The grounds are free of charge (open until 8 p.m. - at least in June) and the view of the Firth is really lovely.
In summary: great location with good infrastructure round about, quiet room, friendly/accommodating hostess, Definitely to be recommended! Thanks, Juliet!

We had a marvelous time in Edinburgh and Juliet's and Iain's house is the perfect place to stay. Thank you so much for letting us stay at your place and for all the arrangements you've made for us. People, if you want to feel at home in Edinburgh, stay with the Pound family!

For a travelling granny who fetched up in a strange city, arriving at Juliet's home was marvellous. Warmth, interest and plenty of information was always available. I was welcomed into the heart of the family - the kitchen - and felt quite at home.
Thank you Juliet and Ian for a very successful few nights stay with you both.
I prefer staying at Juliets and her families house in Edinburgh when i would be in Scottland. I really enjoyed to be at your house, i could relax and be outside, close to a walk at the sea, meanwhile passing a golf course, not far away. As well one can easyly take the bus to town or even walk there.
Everything you need is just around the corner. Theres a beautiful garden as well, i was barfoot stepping through ^^.
Juliet is a very kind and reliable person, for she was not there at that time, her friend Linda was taking care to show me everything. Also a very nice person, i enjoyed very much to talk to you, Linda, maybe next year again :-)...All the best to you all. Monique
Recomendable 100%.
Better than a 5* hotel. Wonderful family and the room is super comfortable. Intimacy, clean, friendly, spacious and near downtown. Right next door there is a supermarket (telco). Recommended 100%.
Wonderful stay in Edinburgh! Juliet gave us a perfect start in Scotland, very warm welcome, nice room and great breakfast.
