Reviews of this property
The Blue Paradise villa is truly a Paradise! Our week there was the best and I have to say that Elias went out of his way to make sure that our time there was everything we had hoped for. This charming ,gorgeous place was located in an area that was off the beaten path--adding to my wish of experiencing more the natural lifestyle of the Greeks. Elias and Maria helped us plan our itinerary and in doing so, showed us a night of wonderful Greek music and dancing. We had rented a car which I would recommend .We ended up spending more time at the villa just because it was so pleasant there. The property had been in Elias's family and he did most of the restorative work himself...I can't wait to go back!
It was a pleasure, staying at Elias beautiful Blue Paradise villa.
One of our best holidays.
Our host Elias was brilliant. Ready with information when we needed it, friendly and accessible.
The villa was large, clean and we had a lovely veranda were we had our breakfast.
The pool was clean and refreshing.
Definitely recommend this villa!
As my daughter walked through the huge oak doors of the Blue Paradise Villa - she exclaimed 'this really is paradise!' A good start ! We enjoyed a wonderful week at Elias and his family's beautiful two storey villa - Blue Paradise. Despite arriving in the middle of the night after a late flight to Heraklion (drive took about 1 hr.15 mins) Elias was there to greet us and show us around his beautifully converted house. The original stone and features of the ancient village house have been maintained - whilst it has been modernised to a very high standard. There is an upstairs terrace with table and chairs and lovely views over the rolling hills to the sea (coast 20 mins drive away) which is surrounded by clear glass - optimising the view and minimising the impact of the balcony on the attractive stone of the house. The upstairs double bedroom is very elegantly furnished with air conditioning, as is the lounge part of the living space on this upper floor. The kitchen - whilst not as modern as the rest of the rooms - has everything you need - a gas/electric cooker with oven, fridge -freezer, microwave ,coffee maker, crockery, glasses and utensils.(the kitchen/ lounge area also has air conditioning). There is a separate staircase (very attractive but quite steep) down to a room with a bed, desk, dresser - from which you can access both the twin bedroom and the enormous, beautifully appointed bathroom with whirlpool bath/shower, sink and toilet. The twin bedroom is lovely - beautifully decorated with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and television. The only drawback to this room is the lack of air-conditioning - but after a first very hot night for our children - we purchased a fan which we have left at the villa - which cooled them perfectly. This room then has its own door out to the gorgeous patio and garden - and lovely pool. This is immaculately kept - with sunbeds, umbrellas and a large dining table with a giant umbrella. At night - the garden and pool are lit - and we enjoyed several moonlit swims. The garden gets the sun all day - and the pool was a delight. Elias cleans it every couple of days. To our surprise - the villa was cleaned part the way through the week also - with fresh towels provided - a very pleasant bonus.Elias provided all bedlinen and both indoor and pool towels. The villa is part of one large house - the other half of which is also offered for rental by Elias as the Green Paradise Villa ( we had the opportunity to view it - it is also beautifully renovated with three bedrooms and a stunning upper terrace with magnificent views). The two houses are adjacent - and the terrace of the other does overlook the Blue Paradise - but the gardens are well screened from each other. The house sits on the edge of a pretty village famous for it's pottery - so there are quite a few interesting shops and picturesque tavernas. You do feel part of a Greek community - and we were often treated to traditional Greek music played by our neighbours! Whilst generally quiet - there is a natural everyday hubub around.
We were lucky enough to meet Elias' family - who were extremely hospitable and brought us tomatoes, pears, melon, home-made meatballs and various other treats. There are charming and. genuine people -and made our stay in Crete truly memorable.
The coast directly North of the villa is easily accessible with miles of beach - when going West from Stavromenos towards Rethymnon (the centre of which is lovely for a stroll round the narrow streets and shops) and there are some picturesque coves further East in the direction of Bali. We enjoyed three good evening meals in the tavernas of the nearest, pretty coastal resort of Panormo - the best of which was Taverna Kastro - delicious food, very friendly service -and great atmosphere with spontaneous Greek dancing at the end of the evening - and the usual complimentary raki and dessert. Our favourite daytime haunt was a very laid -back beach bar on the little coast road in Stakakis (just East of Stavromenos) called Almyrikia. It was not overly busy - even in mid-August - and we were some of the few non-Greeks who went there. The food was delicious(best Greek salad I had during the week) and very reasonable - and you can choose to eat at the tables or sofas up in the bar or down on the sun loungers with umbrellas down at the water's edge( free for patrons of the bar.). The sea was like a warm, clear bath - and with the rocks around it was good for snorkelling. Just beware of sea Urchins. As with all the beaches with sunbeds in Crete - there is a fresh water shower and behind the bar there is also a swimming pool with a baby paddling pool. We could have happily spent all day everyday here - it is to be thoroughly recommended - and as always, the owner was very charming, food and drink very reasonable and the whole place incredibly relaxed - whether with children or without.
A drive to the South Coast is also to be recommended (about an hour) - stunning scenery driving through the mountains and gorges of central Crete - and some of the most beautiful coves and beaches when you get there.
We can thoroughly recommend Elias' Blue Paradise Villa. A great base for exploring Crete and real Cretan hospitality. Thank you.
