Greenwich is famous for its maritime history and for giving its name to the Greenwich Meridian (0° longitude) and Greenwich Mean Time. Greenwich is very cosy and makes you feel like you are in a village rather than a big city. There are lots of little shops and a popular market during the weekends. The park in Greenwich is very enjoyable, and from the top of the hill you will see a panoramic view of London. Greenwich University’s main buildings are also situated in the park and are very impressive.
Central London is within easy reach from Greenwich. Trains will take you to London Bridge station within 10 minutes. The DLR takes about 10 minutes to Canary Wharf, where you can enjoy the new financial district with a big shopping centre and lots of nice restaurants and cafés set to enjoy the water surrounding the tall buildings. The Jubilee Line runs from Canary Wharf and will take you to Oxford Street within 15 minutes. If you prefer an alternative route which might be more time consuming, however more enjoyable, there are boats regularly departing from Greenwich, which will take you to Tower Hill in 20 minutes.
