You feel the river in your hands, the comfort inside and beauty around... Simple in one of the best areas of Lisbon
The strategical location of this apartment, right by the Lisbon´s Cathedral, will make you enjoy the city in a few steps, as you find everything you need at door. The apartment is located in a newly refurbished and very beautifull building facing the Sé cathedral church, on the way up to the Castelo de S. Jorge hill and Alfama. At a few minutes walking distance you find the Castelo de S. Jorge, the cafeterias and terraces of Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol, Alfama, the Sé Church, the famous Praça do Comércio square and very good transport connections, including the tram 28 and underground. An ideal location.
Nearby you have various forms of traditional Portuguese commerce, and from there you can easily reach most of the popular sightseeing spots in Lisbon.
It is also a short walking distance to the subway (Rossio station), to the train station (Cais do Sodré) going to the beaches around Cascais and the station where the trains to Sintra leaves.
Less than 5 minutes from home you will find all means of transportation you need from the tram No. 15 that will take you to Belém.
There is also some public car park within a 5/8 minutes walk of the apartment.
This location has easy access to Baixa, Bairro Alto, Chiado, the Castle (S. Jorge) district and also to Alfama and to Santa Clara, where Lisbon’s flee-market takes place.
It is also close to some of the stops of the famous tram 28 (Electrico 28). This is a scenic route crossing most of the tourist neighbourhoods of the city centre. A definite must for any visitor to Lisbon.
After the great earthquake of 1755, when the center of Lisbon was destroyed, a new center was constructed, made of grid pattern “geometrical” streets. This area, situated between Praça do Comércio, Rossio and Praça da Figueira is called Baixa.
From Baixa you can easily access The nigh life district Bairro Alto and the smart Chiado, with all his theatres, museums, elegant and traditional shops, bars and restaurants.
To the other direction, going up street, you will accede Graça and Santa Clara the place where Feira da Ladra (Thief’s market ), the flea market, happens every Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Here there are several “musts” not to miss on your visit:
Panteão Nacional – Church of Santa Engrácia: When the construction began in 1682, it was planned as one of the Lisbon’s biggest churches. However, it had been long neglected and the construction was completed only in 1966! It was then that the Panteão Nacional was inaugurated. Here you will find cenotaphs of Portugal’s heroes. The interior is colossal and contains the tombs of historic and literary figures – from Vasco da Gama to Amália Rodrigues, the famous fado singer.
The convent of São Vicente de Fora: Portugal’s first king, Afonso Henriques laid the foundations of this church in order to fulfil a vow to construct Christian Houses of worship where Portuguese and European crusaders would lay to rest. Inaugurated in 1629, the church was severely damaged by the 1755 earthquake. It has been recently renovated and deserves a visit. The view from the rooftop is one of the greatest in Lisbon.
Some “Miradouros” (vantage points) with amazing views over the castle S. Jorge, the river Tejo and the city roofs: miradouro da Graça with an open-air café and Senhora do Monte 600m further on. The views are even more spectacular at sunset. Don’t miss it!

Reviews for this host's other properties
Me and my girls from Germany stayed in this apartement 5 days in March. We can say the place was great. Its directly next to the Cois do Sodré Central Station, maybe a 10 min walk. From there off you can arrive every part of Lisbon to see all their Seightseeing places. The boats to the other site of Lisbon are also next to it. Our host was a young and very friendly girl, that was waiting for us in the apartement untill we arrived. Everything was just easy and the place was very clean. You get your own towels and clean bed linen. The house is restored. The only noise factor was the little restaurant among the apartement and on the weekends you have to expect young students outside, that make party in the bars along the street. But thats only on the weekends. All in all we had a great time there and no problems. We liked the place a lot .
The location is great, the apartment itself is very noisy and smaller than it looks in the pictures. The kitchen equipment is abysmal, to cook for four people is almost impossible due to lack of crockery and cutlery. Recommended would at least provide a coffee maker; there was only a coffee pot for one person.
Thank you so much for giving us a wonderful
and great place to be in lisbon!
The apartement was clean and we had
a lot of space! For us four young people it was
the perfect place to going out and enjoy
Ourselfs! We had a lot of party and it was easy to
explore the city center by foot.. Especially bairro alto, where we visited a lot of bars next door
The apartment was as advertised. Very nice reception on site (Joana). Problems with Internet were handled immediately. Super location of the apartment, the 28 stops around the corner. Also a supermarket is around the corner. The large bed is very comfortable, the apartment is recommended for 2 people for 4 is the sofa bed is not recommended. The apartment is very quiet.
Always my pleasure !!
Immer wieder gerne!!
Second stay at this apartment, simply perfect! Margarida´s team is always there whenever there is any issue and they solve it instantly! Highly recommended!
Lovely apartment in a quiet part of town, a 5 minute walk down to Rossio Square and the heart of Lisbon. Great communication from Margarida and her team, who were incredibly friendly and helpful. I will definitely be staying with them again when I return to Lisbon.
The Appartment was nice and clean.
Communication with Ana was perfect and fast.
The Appartment is located very central near Bairro Alto and everything can be reached very fast by foot.
Beautiful location in an atmospheric buurt.Ligt high. View over Lisbon's beautiful. Fine reception by Joanna who immediately gives lots of tips.
Apartment is ready for a facelift, we had a leak (and just a lot of rain this weekend) and that was not nice. We did get the opportunity to choose another option but we stayed because we did not want to pack our stuff. Again Made big bucket underneath. Large windows did not open, was caught, many small bathroom mildew. So consider carefully take everything in hand (brushing, dyeing, and that which is to make even the broken power cords broken) would make this a prime location.
greetings Ilse and Wim
Prachtige locatie in een sfeervolle buurt.Ligt hoog. Uitzicht over Lissabon is prachtig.
5 stars out of 5.
Everything as described and wonderfully reliable hosts made this a memorable stay. Big like. Next time Lisboa we will be around again.
The apartment is in an ideal location, close to all-you-can-need local groceries and spot on restaurants, where we could feel the spirit of the old Lisbon. Well equipped, although we lacked some small details like dishwasher tablets ;-) It is on the steep hill, so getting up and down twice a day was a bit exhausting (esp. that we were with small children), so may be a minus, unless keeping fit is your priority. The kids got used to in the end, too :)
Nevertheless if we vistited Lisbon again, we would definately come back there.
Thanks for a warm welcome to Joanna!
