There is nothing more exciting than making a last minute decision to take a holiday - the only annoying thing can be trying to find suitable accommodation for your trip! Because of Amsterdam’s amazing nightlife, cool cultural scene and chilled out atmosphere (not to mention excellent transport links to the rest of Europe), it’s an obvious choice for a city break at short notice! Here at Wimdu we know that, and so we make sure that we have apartments and late rooms - even houseboats! - available throughout the city whenever you need them, so that finding accommodation is as easy as possible.
Finding a Last Minute Room in Amsterdam
Whether you are in Amsterdam for fun, or for a last minute business trip, you will probably want to stay fairly central. Check out the range of holiday flats and apartments available in the Old Centre, which is the popular medieval part of the city, or the Canal Ring and Jordaan, both of which are popular tourist areas with a lot of accommodation. If you want something a little different, consider staying on the water and renting a houseboat on a canal for the weekend! Wimdu’s website is simple to use and searchable, so you can find whatever you are looking for really easily, whether that’s a self-catering apartment with extra bedrooms for a last minute trip with friends, or a stylish city centre rental for a surprise romantic weekend!
Fun Facts about Amsterdam
- There are over one million bikes in Amsterdam. Not that weird? Well there are less than 800,000 residents in the entire city!
- 86% of Dutch people speak three languages fluently!
- Amsterdam has more canals than Venice and is often referred to as the Venice of the North!
Don’t Miss Out On...
Get orientated with a tour on The Canal Bus which will take you past lots of the major attractions, while also giving you an idea of how extensive Amsterdam’s canal network is! There are various different routes, and you can get on and off as you wish. If you have an interest in art, don’t miss out on the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. The Anne Frank Museum is also a sobering and important place to visit if you have an interest in Amsterdam’s recent history. If you have booked your bed and breakfast accommodation somewhere central, you will be able to walk to all these places.
Once you have enjoyed your day of culture, you’ll be ready to head out from your guest house and sample some of the city’s famous nightlife! Start your night at one of the traditional Dutch bruine bars in Rembrandtplein, with their beautiful wood panelled interiors and take your evening from there. We recommend finishing your night at one of the clubs at Leidse Square in the Canal Ring area - you can then easily stumble back to your apartment to start all over again the next day!
The chances are that for a last-minute break you will be flying into Schipol Airport. From there it is an easy 20-minute journey by train into Amsterdam Central Station - this is also where you will end up if you take the train into the city. Once you have arrived, getting around Amsterdam itself is easy - the centre is really easy to get around on foot, or you can hire a bike (check with your Wimdu host - some late booking accommodation comes complete with a cycle or two!). As long as your last minute apartment is fairly central you will be able to get to and from it very easily, and spend the rest of your time enjoying everything this fantastic city has to offer!
