If you feel comfortable in a rural atmosphere, Andratx is ideal. There are wonderful villas with pools in quiet and beautiful environments surrounded by fields and mountains. You will spend 50% less than at Port Andratx which is only 5 kms away and still can benefit from all the activities in the area. Some kilometers north of Andratx, up in the mountains you can find good value houses with pools. However if your dream is to open your window over the Mediterranean sea, then you have stay in this town, which is also known as Puerto Andratx. It is the most famous sea resort in the area, half an hour from Palma by car. Driving 5 kilometres to the south the smaller resort Es Camp de Mar offers some properties with direct access to the sea. If you are looking for a more genuine setup, then your choice should be Sant Elm, located 10 kms north of Andratx on the coast, where you can also expect sea view villas and apartments.

There are many things to do around Andratx starting with hiking and cycling from Tramuntana mountains. Many trails and routes are available for each level from beginners to advanced, and a number of companies organize full day tours like Rock & Water for around €50 per person. Golfers will also be happy with the 18-hole Andratx Golf Club offering the most challenging course in Mallorca with the longest hole in Spain. Beach lovers will also be delighted: sandy beaches are all around, perfect for children. From Camp de Mar passing by Port Andratx, you can go for a wonderful diving experience which will take you to Sa Dragonera island, a preserved area. A full day diving starts at €98 per person but you can also try an extraordinary Bond tour for the same price if you book their Bond Safari. Finally in Andratx the very interesting CCA art gallery is worth a visit and Castell Son Mas, a former castle, is nowadays the town hall of the city.

You would not expect such a variety of restaurants in such a small area. From the simplest beach restaurant to Michelin stars, the choice is wide. On the way to Port Andratx in a former olive press, the Oliu restaurant offers a number of fine dishes from meat to fish with the special touch of local chef Joan Porcel Balaguer. Be prepared to spend around €60 per person, wine not included. In Sant Elmo, the Cala Conills located right in front of Sa Dragonera island awaits you with a breathtaking view. The plus is a swimming pool with deck chairs. Here seafood is the king and they also serve typical Spanish dishes. For breakfast or quick tapas, the Bar Central in Port Andratx has a nice view over the Marina and reasonable price at around €35 for two. The Vent de Tramuntana is another very good option with a nice outside patio and generous portions of Spanish food. It’s good value with an average price around €20 per person.

Andratx is thirty minutes away from Palma by car and the beaches and other sites of interest are no more than 5 kilometres away. It is definitely worth renting a car from local companies. The roads are in very good shape and most car rentals offer GPS. If not, maps are available at the local tourist office. Just remember that in the summer the traffic can get fairly busy. There are some bus services but they all start from Palma. If you don’t drive, it is wise to pick up a taxi. They are not expensive, but as a rule always check the fare before. Another exciting way to go from Port Andratx to Sant Elm is by boat. If you take a water taxi in the Marina of Port Andratx, it will cost you €10 per person. Finally if you are a little more adventurous, rent a motorbike, a scooter, or even a buggy.
