Where to Stay

where to stay

Marrakesh combines the old spirit and the new lifestyle of Morocco, therefore is a very nice option for visitors who want to experience a little bit of everything. On the other hand, the Mediterranean city of Casablanca is very popular, easy accessible by boat – cruise ships are constant – or plane, and therefore is a city that modernized itself and is well prepared to receive foreigners. As a capital, Rabat is actually quite calm comparing with other world capitals and if you’re looking for some hassle-free vacation this is the place to be in Morocco. Tangier is visited a lot by Spanish people due to the closeness between Spain and Tangier, thanks to this the city has Spanish influences but keeps the exotic feeling of typical Morocco and with very pleasant beaches. Wherever you stay in unique Morocco you will get a mix of cultures and influences, and even a special combination of deserts, mountains and sea.

Things to do

things to do

Given the variety of places in Morocco, any visitor can enjoy a wide range of activities. Let’s start with the typical: visit old medinas, like Djemaa el-Fna in Marrakesh, towers and monuments and don’t forget the very special local markets – named Souk - full of unique spices with vivid colors. After that, just choose where to go next: a trip to the desert is a must given that Morocco offers lots of different tours through it and it is not everyday you can feel the sand of the desert between your toes, but also mountains offer great views and a sense of accomplishment after hiking, on the other hand with such a beautiful coastline, going to the beach is a very nice idea doesn’t matter which time of the year thanks to the bright sun and warm temperatures.

Where to eat

food and drink

In order to experience the unique mint tea that will taste to you like no other tea you ever drank, just pop into any cafe. You will most likely not be the only one enjoying this specialty, it is a common habit around Morocco. Shishas or Hookas are also an option with the tea, don’t be surprised to see lots of smoke – made out of steam – coming out of these big and decorated pipes. In any Souk you will be given specialties to try – and later buy – so you can get out of there with a full stomach and full bags, plus the feeling of having tried many new things. A lot of the food is spicy so be careful if you cannot handle a hot tongue for the rest of the day. Any of the main cities also have European style dishes, usually adapted for tourists, nevertheless it is in the Souks and cafes you will truly experience Moroccan lifestyle and widen your taste buds to new flavours – and smells!

Getting Around

getting around

As soon as you arrive in Morocco – especially when arriving in a cruise ship -, you will be approached by taxi drivers, bus drivers and many other drivers to take you on tours around the closest city. In fact it is one of the best ways to discover a lot in little time, and with a local! If you negotiate the price, it is a very nice option to consider. Being with a local is the easiest way to get around because by yourself you might get lost or scammed. Even when knowing exactly where to go, calling a taxi is the safest way to get there and also to get back to your accommodation. Morocco is easily accessible by boat, train, ferry and plane but once you are there prepare to negotiate for transport – and for everything else as well.
