The sun-kissed island of Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands attracting holidaymakers from all over the world. Playa Blanca is a small town located on the south side of the island and is slowly but surely proving to become one of the more popular areas to holiday. Until quite recently, Playa Blanca was a small fishing village somewhat stranded at the most southerly tip of Lanzarote, it has now become the third largest tourist area of the island, welcoming sun-seeking guests throughout the year. Playa Blanca has been awarded many times for its beauty, cleanliness and stunning beaches. This peaceful and tranquil spot is an ideal place for all the family to enjoy. Playa Blanca has a wide range of hotels, apartments and villas which are surrounded by restaurants, bars and of course a beautiful cost line. You can find a great selection of shops and local market stalls along the Playa Blanca boardwalk, and the streets running parallel to it, at the edge of the old town. A few minutes from Playa Blanca, you can find some of the most renowned sites on the island such as Timanfaya National Park, La Geria, Janubio salt flats and El Golfo, as well as many more. You can also visit the village of Las Breñas, where you can enjoy a spectacular panorama view of Playa Blanca with the Fuerteventura Island in the distance.
Tourism is one of Lanzarote’s main industries, as a result there is an array of accommodation options available on the island. Hotels, apartments, guest houses and villas are plentiful. Great Places to Visit
Playa Blanca is a small town, but there is tons of hidden gems and great attractions in the area. We recommend starting off your day by taking a morning bike ride around the area and the island. There are many bike tour operators in Playa Blanca and carter for big or small groups and families. You can even opt to cycle with a tour guide who will show you the most scenic spots around southern part of the island. Bikes are available to rent for both adults and children. After your morning cycle, take a trip to Timanfaya National Park, it is a great place to have a picnic lunch and enjoy the sunshine! While you are there you can take a tour of the still active volcano! We do recommend taking a guided tour as it can be a little tricky getting to the top, the volcano its self is awe-inspiring and the views from the top are stunning. During the afternoon, pay a visit to Rancho Texas Park. The park is a combination of a water park with a small zoo. Everything from lions and tigers to sea lions can be seen and the water park will keep the kids busy for the entire day. For the adults there are restaurants and bars in the park with lounge chairs for you to relax in the sun. A great attraction to visit at any point during the day is Castillo de las Coloradas, this watchtower which was built between 1741 and 1744 still stands today and is a great place to learn the history of Lanzarote as an Island.
For those who have come to Playa Blanca to bask in the Mediterranean sun, it is a must to spend time on the white sandy beaches! Playa Blanca has some of the most impressive beaches on all the island, two of our favourites are Playa Dorada Beach and Flamingo Beach both beaches cater excellently for visitors by providing deck chairs and lounge chairs which are free to use, there are also many huts selling everything from ice-cream to tapas to cold beverages to cool you down. We would recommend you get there early as beaches around the Playa Blanca area can get quite busy during peak seasons. After toping up on your tan, get yourself ready for some nightlife entertainment – Keep reading to find out more!
Nightlife and Entertainment
Playa Blanca is more of a family orientated resort, so nightlife in the area is quitter then other parts of the island. But don’t worry for those who do want to party until the early hours of the morning Puerto del Carmen is only a ten minute taxi ride away. Puerto del Carmen has a huge night life scene that will leave even the most hard core party people tired at the end of the night. For those with kids and teenagers, Playa Blanca is the place to be. There is lots of great entertainment to choose from, most hotels and apartment resorts put on live entertainment shows to entertain young and old, the bars are always bustling and it is a great place for families to relax in the evening.
Where to Eat
You will be spoiled for choice with the selection of international cuisines around the Playa Blanca area. There are restaurant’s all over the old town which service anything from full English breakfasts to local tapas and prices are very reasonable. We do recommended that you check out the more local restaurant’s and get a taste of traditional island food. Pescado a la sal, fish baked in salt, and 'Sancocho Canario', a stew made with dried fish and potatoes are some of the more popular traditional foods and two of our favourites! If you opt for a self-catering villa, then why not purchase some local fresh produce to cook. Fish markets are all over the island and ever Friday the markets sell fresh fish caught the very same day!

It is easy to walk around the whole town of Playa Blanca on foot, so you don’t need to worry too much about transportation. Taxis are available and inexpensive, there is one bus available to take you around the town and only takes a half hour to ride it full circle. The airport is 45 minutes away from Playa Blanca and there are many shuttle bus services to take you to and from. We do recommend booking a shuttle bus service beforehand to get the best price.
