Getting around in Rotterdam by public transport is stress free and fast. Like most cosmopolitan cities, Rotterdam boasts extensive public transport networks that will get you from a to b without any trouble. Due to the size of the city also, many places can be easily reached on foot. Rotterdam was the first city in the Netherlands to have a metro system, and the current system was installed back in 1968. It comprises 5 lines, which are colour-coded and named from A to E. Lines A, B and C are the main city lines, and serve the east-west line, and line E connects the city with the Hague.
