Sokcho is a coastal city located in the north west of the Gangwon-do province of South Korea. It is known as the gateway to the Seoraksan National Park, which is extremely popular with natives and foreign visitors alike. Hiking and mountaineering are the main activity in this area and has seen this small town generate a strong tourist industry. The town acts as an accommodation point for those walkers seeking pensions and apartments in between their excursions. There are plenty of walks for all levels and equipment can be rented from the many outlets that dot the town. Most walks take around 12 hours to complete, but multi-day trails can be organised.
