Apartment, Holiday Rentals & Accommodations in Sokcho-si

Sokcho is a coastal city located in the north west of the Gangwon-do province of South Korea. It is known as the gateway to the Seoraksan National Park, which is extremely popular with natives and foreign visitors alike. Hiking and mountaineering are the main activity in this area and has seen this small town generate a strong tourist industry. The town acts as an accommodation point for those walkers seeking pensions and apartments in between their excursions. There are plenty of walks for all levels and equipment can be rented from the many outlets that dot the town. Most walks take around 12 hours to complete, but multi-day trails can be organised. As well as walking the parks attracts visitors to its Sinheungsa Temple. This temple boasts an enormous Buddha sculpture near the entrance of the park.

Finding apartments and pensions in Sokcho

After all the trekking across the amazing scenery of Seoraksan National Park it is important that you secure an apartment in Sokcho that you can relax in. Wimdu’s interactive website allows you to select your required amenities as well as read comments from other people who have stayed with the host. You can chose to stay with locals, who in turn can give you the best advice of trails to take and equipment you need. This also keeps tourism money in the hands of real natives rather than going to the larger hotel companies. Sokcho is not well known around the globe, but by staying with a local you not only get to sample real life in South Korea but you can be shown and discover some hidden gems that the town has to offer.

Benefits of staying in an apartment or pension in Sokcho

By staying in a pension or privately owned apartment a traveller has a better interaction with local people and places. Often by staying in the hotels visitors have no dealings with local people and only other visitors which they could meet anywhere in the world. Not only this but more often than not the hotel will be located in a ‘touristy’ area of the town, an area not usually frequented by locals. Homestays also allow you access to household amenities such as washing facilities and a kitchen that you would not get in an hotel.
