Things to do

Things to do

With breathtaking local landscapes, nearby beaches and historic monuments, you’re not pushed for things to do and see in a town as rich and beautiful as Sóller. The town dates back to the 12th-century, and features an array of beautiful early Christian and Islamic architecture. The main focal point of the town is the Plaça Constitució Square. In terms of historic sights and monuments, the town is packed with breathtaking architecture from bygone eras and the Sant Bartomeu Church dates all the way back to 1236, when it was founded as a Christian town. Much of the interior of the church is now largely of the baroque era, with extensive renovations and improvements having taken place between 1688 and 1733. Many of the houses in Soller were built in the early twentieth century by immigrants who were inspired by French Art Nouveau styles.

Eating and Drinking

Finding places to eat and drink in Soller isn’t exactly difficult. Popular with tourists due to its old-world charms and moderate climate, the town boasts a large selection of eateries and bars that cater to locals and tourists alike. The focal point of the town, as mentioned before, is the beautiful Plaça Constitució Square, around which you will find a wide selection of cafes, restaurants and bars to enjoy at your leisure. Like many towns in Mallorca, the cuisine is heavily based around the deliciously fresh catches which are hauled in by the nearby docks at Port de Soller. Visitors can enjoy the opportunity to explore the wonderful local culinary culture while enjoying fine Spanish wine or sangria. What better place to enjoy a meal, than surrounded by a panorama of lush mountainous landscapes? Soller has it all.

Getting Around

getting around

Given its small size, getting around Soller is hardly difficult. If you choose to stay within the main town, you’ll find yourself within a short walking distance of many of the main sights, attractions and restaurants that the area has to offer. Getting around on foot while staying in one of the hamlets might be a little more difficult, though bus services do run throughout the area. However, if you plan to move around a lot then car hire may be a wise option - especially if you plan to travel further afield. The nearby Port de Soller on the north west coast of the island is easily accessible by public transport, as a historic railway known as the Ferrocarril de Sóller runs back and forth throughout the day. The port is also accessible by road, though be warned that the route includes a toll tunnel.
