Eating and Drinking
Restaurants with fresh fish are not at all hard to find in Olhos de Água and they should be your choice for either dinner or lunch. Sardines are very typical in Portugal and are a delight to eat in the Algarve, but generally speaking all fish are very tasty and well-cooked since Olhos de Água is a fishing village. When spending time relaxing on the beach you may hear someone shouting “Bola de Berlim”, which is a typical sweet to have while on the beach in Portugal. Sellers walk around the beach shouting so that anyone who wants to enjoy one can come and buy. The combination of eating a bola de berlim and spending time relaxing on the beach is quite surprisingly good and you should try it. On another note, Portugal has lots of cafes with terraces so you should try those as well.
Getting around in Olhos de Água should be done exclusively on foot, unless your accommodation is not near the beach - which should be! When staying close to the beach, the only walking you will ever have to do is from the accommodation to the beach and vice versa, because all restaurants should be close to the beach as well. In case you are further away, the way to go is the same but by foot can take more time and require more patience. Therefore taking a taxi is an alternative option because your own car, or a rented car, might be stressful when it comes to parking near the beach. Usually you are not the only one having the idea to take a car and parking spaces are very few and might be expensive in controlled areas. Walking is definitely the best option, and a great exercise for your body!
